Getting Started
Together is a video player that can play video files from direct web links, in sync with everyone on a FaceTime call.
Open a Video
Select Open Video and enter the address of a video, e.g.
https://example.com/video.mp4. It needs to be a direct link to a video file
(e.g. mp4, mkv) or an HLS or DASH stream (m3u8/mpd). You cannot open a
streaming service’s page, like YouTube.
Watch Together
Open a video link while on a FaceTime call and SharePlay starts automatically. Everyone on the call then watches the same moment: play, pause, seek, and opening a new link all stay in sync for all participants.
Together only shares the video’s link and playback position through SharePlay. Each person streams the video directly from its source, so it never goes through your device or iCloud.
Supported Formats
Together handles nearly any format, including:
- Containers — MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, and more.
- Video codecs — H.264, HEVC, VP9, AV1, and more.
- Streaming — HLS (
m3u8) and DASH (mpd). - Subtitles — SRT, WebVTT, and other plain-text subtitles are styled using your Subtitles & Captioning settings. ASS and SSA subtitles keep their original positioning, styling, and effects.
